Acton, CA Real Estate

home buyersThe community of Acton is located in a small alluvial valley bounded on the north by the Sierra Pelona mountains, and to the south by the San Gabriel mountains. The Antelope Valley freeway gives easy access to the San Fernando Valley as well as to Los Angeles for the residents who commute. It takes about 30 minutes to reach the San Fernando Valley and approximately an hour to reach Los Angeles. The area is home to just over 9,000 residents.

The weather in Acton offers the four seasons. Summer evenings cool down more than your lower elevation valleys. The altitude ranges from 2000 ft to more than 4000 ft, keeping summer cooler than expected. Acton is also home to rare and protected plant and animal life. The Great Basin sage and the Unarmored 3-spine Stickleback fish are two such species. Other species not listed as rare are quail, hawk, raven, squirrel, kangaroo rat, owl, coyote and roadrunner. Occasionally, you may spot an eagle, mountain lion, black bear, or white-tailed deer.

Acton seeks to exhibit a “western” or “rustic” atmosphere and this theme is very evident in its homes and storefronts as well as its historical buildings, some of which were built in the late 1800s. If you think the rail station looks familiar, you’re probably right. The rail station has an “old west” theme and style about it that is so authentic that it is often used in movies, TV shows and commercials.

Acton is home to Shambala Preserve, which is a wildlife preserve that is owned and operated by actress Tippi Hedron (the woman who got trapped in the phone booth in Alfred Hitchcock’s movie The Birds.) The preserve is dedicated to rescuing, protecting and caring for exotic wildlife such as lions and/or tigers that were illegally captured or otherwise came into a person’s possession and were not being cared for properly. Additionally, it can also offer assistance when needed for any type of wildlife problem, no matter the species or circumstances.

Acton is commonly referred to by those who live there as the Beverly Hills of Antelope Valley, because a large number of single-family dwellings are mansions or large ranch-style homes with a large amount of property and equestrian facilities. Homes in the mountains have a spectacular view of Antelope Valley. While, homes located in the valley may not have the same views, but homeowners do have the option of being able to keep horses on their property.

School age children are served by the schools of Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District. There are two elementary schools, Meadowlark and Agua Dulce Elementary Schools; along with High Desert School and Vasquez High School.
