Agoura Hills, CA Real Estate

Agoura Hills is an incorporated city located in Los Angeles County. It was incorporated in 1982, making it a relatively new city. Its close proximity to US 101 make it very accessible to Los Angeles and the attractions and entertainment that can be found both in the City and surrounding areas.

Dona Maria Antonia Machado del Reyes once owned Agoura Hills. Her ownership came as a result of a land grant that was filed after the United States flag began to fly over California. Dona del Reyes’s heirs, Jose Reyes and Maria Altgracia Reyes de Vejar, later built “The Reyes Adobe” (so named for the type of building material used, as well as the inclusion of the family name). Last owned by Jacinta Reyes, this adobe home still exists as a museum.

In addition to the adobe home, the Reyes Adobe Museum, a very popular tourist attraction, was built in the mid-2000sand is operated by the Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation. The site of this museum is close to the original location of the old adobe home.

Agoura Hills is a beautiful place to live. Single-family residences in Agoura Hills are plentiful and homes come in many different architectural styles. The area’s Spanish heritage is captured in lovely Spanish colonial revival homes. However, homes that pay homage to different parts of the world are also available. You can find a gorgeous French country home, or an elegant Mediterranean residence.

Agoura Hills is served by the Las Virgenes Unified School District. Students attend one of the four elementary schools and two middle schools and then go on to Agoura High School. In addition, Conejo Jewish Day School offers classes in Grades 1-6 and hopes to open a 7th grade at some time during the 2008-2009 school year.
