Artesia, CA Real Estate

home buyersThe area of Artesia, was originally part of the Spanish land grant known as Rancho Los Coyotes owed by Manuel Nieto. The village of Artesia was established upon the completion of the Artesia School District on May 3, 1875. It was named for the many flowing Artesian wells in the area, which made the village ideal for farming and agriculture. Artesia is located approximately twenty-five minutes away from Los Angeles. The city was incoporated on May 29, 1959. Artesia is surrounded on the west, south, and east sides by Cerritos, with Norwalk to the north.

If you are coming to Artesia from Los Angeles, look for the water tower that is located in the City. No one knows when the tower was built or for how long it was considered an active water source, but the fact remains that it is still there. The water tower can hold 50,000 gallons of water and was once owned by the Southern California Water Company before being sold to the City of Artesia in 1988. It sits on top of an artesian well in 1911, however, no record of its construction can be found.

A section of the city of Artesia is known as “Little India” because of its heavy Indian influence. However, Artesia also boasts many Filipino, Mexican, Chinese and Korean-owned stores and neighborhoods. You can also find Portuguese cuisine as well as good old American food.

If you are looking for a place to live, Artesia is a good choice. The area is home to just over 16,000 people. Its proximity to Los Angeles makes it an ideal location. There are houses for sale in Artesia that have been built in the Italian style of architecture as well as the “traditional” ranch type houses. There are also a number of town homes and condominiums.

The ABC Unified School District serves Artesia. Students attend one of three elementary schools and then go on to Ross Middle School for their junior-high years. From there, they go to one of the five high schools that serve the area. Our Lady of Fatima in Artesia serves grades K-8, for those who wish to send their children to a parochial school for elementary and middle school.
