Culver City, CA Real Estate

Culver City was incorporated on September 20, 1917. At one time, it played a very important role in the motion picture and television industry, as it was the location of MGM Studios. MGM Studios and three other major studios were sold in 1960, the land re-zoned and the buildings and structures were torn down for future use as industrial and retail locations. However, it still remains a factor in the entertainment industry because National Public Radio West and Sony Pictures Entertainment have their headquarters in Culver City.

Between 1932 to 1985, Hughes Aircraft Company had its headquarters in Culver City. Culver City is also the site of a major expansion project of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority. This project begun in 2006 and is expected to be completed in 2010. Plans of this project include extension of a terminal station for the existing Expo light-rail line.

Culver City is best known for its Culver Hotel. In 1924, Harry Culver opened the Culver Hotel, according to its website, a "wedged-shape Renaissance revival-style beauty, fashioned with sculpted stone, brick, ornate overhanging eaves and 200 magnificent windows." It has remained a fixture in Culver City for over eighty years, drawing guests from nearby and all over the world. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Culver Hotel remains the most prominent building in downtown Culver City.

Culver City, with its colorful history, certainly can be considered a fun place to live and moderately-priced single-family homes make that a viable option. In addition, there are many town home "communities," condominium properties and apartment complexes available and ready for immediate occupancy.

The Culver City Unified School District has five elementary schools, a middle school and two high schools (one is continuation school). There is also a very unique private middle school, STAR Prep Academy. Students attending this school actually work with exotic and endangered animals each day as a part of their regular school curriculum.
