East Long Beach is part of the City of Long Beach, which is the fifth largest city in Los Angeles County. East Long Beach is the site of a municipal fly casting pool? Located at Recreation Park, this pool has no fish, but rather is used to teach people how to fly-cast. Some of its "students" include former and current celebrities. There are other things to do besides visit the beach and/or learn to fly-cast.

The city of Long Beach holds many parades throughout the year, which are a lot of fun to watch. Or, you can stroll through the Downtown/Waterfront area, or through the Farmer's Market, or visit the Long Beach Museum of Art. The luxury cruise liner Queen Mary is also permanently berthed at Long Beach. Tours through this massive ship, which one sailed the Pacific Ocean, are available.

For all its accessibility, both to the beach and to Los Angeles itself, houses in East Long Beach are very moderately-priced. Contemporary/modern architecture with low, clean lines is the general rule. East Long Beach also offers a wide variety of apartments and multi-family homes to choose from. Some of the homes are either duplex or triplex and apartment units themselves may be as small as four units or as large as a regular apartment complex.

East Long Beach is served by either the ABC Unified School District or Paramount Unified School District, depending on where school-age children live. In addition, there is an extremely large number of private schools available. This includes an all-girls school, which serves Grades K-8.
