Formerly known as "Edendale," this district is located straight down US-101 from Los Angeles. This neighborhood is unique in and of itself. One of its main attractions is the DIY Gallery. This is technically an "art house," and offers screenings and art shows that are considered "cutting edge" or "not the norm."

The Echo Park neighborhood is being compared to New York's Lower East Side with an emphasis on all things vintage (read: 1960s, 1970s, and some 1980s). This includes restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and shopping venues that specialize in retro fashions and accessories. Those who remember living during those years will enjoy remembering how it was when they once again see the decor and clothes that they wore during that time. Younger people may express surprise (or disbelief) at "the way things were", or they just might think that those were the "coolest" times ever!

Echo Park's vintage atmosphere is somewhat continued in the single-family homes found in the neighborhood. Many of these boast Spanish-inspired architecture, while others are more modern in design. Echo Park also offers apartment living to its residents. Echo Park incorporates the Georgian Colonial style of architecture, a fact that makes its multi-family dwellings as unique as the area itself.

The Los Angeles Unified School District, through its five elementary schools, one middle, and one high school, offer educational opportunities for Echo Park's children. Some children are accepted to the Downtown Magnet School, which offers three courses of study-Fashion, Business, and Electronics. Those who wish to send their children to parochial school can choose Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School.
