El Segundo, CA Real Estate

home buyersEl Segundo was incorporated on January 18, 1917. In Spanish, "El Segundo" means "the second." Supposedly, the city received its name because it became the second West Coast site of the Standard Oil Refinery; this occurred in 1911.

El Segundo offers a number of attractions not found in other areas of Los Angeles. These include the Automobile Driving Museum, Fisherman's Village, Great Western Forum, Hollywood Park, Old Town Music Hall, Ports O'Call Village, and the Roundhouse Marine Lab, which is located in nearby Manhattan Beach. The proximity of El Segundo to Manhattan Beach also allows you to enjoy the sun and surf that make up a large part of California living.

El Segundo is an older city and this is still evident in many of the single-family homes that are available in the area. The majority of homes were built between the 1930s and the 1950s. Don't let their age worry you, however. Most homes have been upgraded and have modern conveniences as well as access to city water and sewer services.

If you are concerned about owning an older home, you might want to consider one of the newer townhome properties or condominium units. Many of these were built in 2008 and are absolutely beautiful. Residents can enjoy on-site amenities such as swimming pools, tennis courts and activity centers. Condo living usually means no maintenance work and no yard work.

El Segundo has two elementary schools-Center Street and Richmond Street Elementary, a middle school-El Segundo Middle, a high school that offers regular curriculum-El Segundo High and a high school which offers an alternative education program-Arena High. In addition, there are three private schools. They are Imperial Avenue School, Saint Anthony School and Vistamar School.
