Encino is an unincorporated district in the City of Los Angeles. Encino offers a wide variety of outdoor activities due to the fact that Lake Balboa is located in Encino. The lake's close proximity to residents of both Encino and Los Angeles allow everyone the opportunity to enjoy fishing, boating and other water recreation activities as well as biking on the bike trails located near and around Lake Balboa. In addition, Reseda Lake is a body of water that has been designated a "fishing-only" site. Those wishing to "wet a hook" don't have to worry about snagging a water skier or swimmer. Golfing is another favorite pastime of Encino residents.

Homes in Encino are considered higher-end properties, although some of the older ones (built between 1940s and 1950s) are more moderately-priced. These homes do have modern conveniences and amenities and meet all applicable building and housing codes. Single-family residences can be found in developments or subdivisions, which may or may not be considered gated or restricted. Architectural styles range from East Coast traditional, to English and Italian.

There are some areas in Encino, in which brand-new, moderately- priced homes are being or have been newly constructed and are currently or will be available. Those wishing to take advantage of one of these newer homes will probably have some choices in style and color, as well as other options. Encino has four public elementary schools, a public K-8 school, two public middle schools and three high schools. One of the high schools bears the name of noted Western author Zane Grey. In addition to the public schools, there are nine private schools available to the residents of Encino. One of these is Holy Martyrs Armenian School. In addition, Valley Beth Shalom Day School and St. Cyril of Jerusalem School operate in Encino, along with one private high school-Crespi Carmelita. Others include Westmark School, Viewpoint School, Children's Community School, Los Encinos School and Berkeley Hall School.
