Harbor City, CA Real Estate

This name is actually a misnomer as Harbor City is neither a city nor does it have or serve as a harbor. It is really a community located in the South Bay Region of Los Angeles. Harbor City is known for "Reggie the Alligator". Residents living in the Machado Lake/Malloy Memorial Park area kept reporting to authorities that an alligator had indeed taken up residence in the lake. Once it was confirmed that "Reggie" was indeed an alligator and was living in the lake, efforts were made to capture him. He managed to elude his pursuers, which included some professional "gator wranglers" from Florida, but was ultimately caught. Today, he reposes in stately splendor (if an alligator can do that) at the Los Angeles Zoo, where those visiting Harbor City can see him.

Visitors to Harbor City can visit "Duck Park" Mulligan's, a family fun center located in the community itself, or continue on down the Pacific Coast Highway to one of the nearby California beaches. Or, reverse the directions you were given above and head into Los Angeles for a while. There you can see all the attractions, such as Mann's Chinese Theatre, visit Chinatown, or stroll down the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Single-family homes are available in Harbor City and range in architectural styles, including contemporary/modern. Most are moderately-priced. There are also a number of multi-family homes (apartment complexes, condominium properties and/or town homes) located in Harbor City.

Harbor City has five public elementary schools. They are Harbor City Elementary, Harbor View Elementary, Normont Elementary, President Avenue Elementary and Two Harbors Elementary. There is also an occupational center and five high schools. One of the high schools is listed as a "teacher preparation academy". In addition, two Christian academies-Soul's Harbor and Pacific Harbor offer private faith-based education for children in Grades 1-12.
