Hawaiian Gardens, CA Real Estate

home buyersHawaiian Gardens was incorporated on April 14, 1965 and is the smallest city in Los Angeles County. Hawaiian Gardens The name is said to be derived from a bamboo shack refreshment stand opened at the corner of Carson and Norwalk boulevards in 1927 by an unknown businessman. The stand was said to resemble a Hawaiian Garden.

One of the first things you will notice is that the homes in this city are truly "typical" of the homes in Southern California. The low-roofed design, coupled with the stucco-type material of which the home is built is exactly what comes to your mind when you think of living in the suburban or rural areas of Southern California. The next thing you will notice in Hawaiian Gardens (at least the adults will) is the casino that is located there.

Home to just over 14,000 residents, Hawaiian Gardens doesn't have any sprawling mansions that can be found in and around Los Angeles or some of its surrounding neighborhoods. There are apartment complexes, some town homes and some condominium properties in Hawaiian Gardens. The city publishes its own free monthly newsletter, The Sunrise, that is printed and distributed to each resident and is printed in both English and Spanish. The newsletter gives updated information on city developments, public safety, recycling, public works, human services along with a calendar of upcoming city events.

For recreation, the C. Robert Lee Activity Center has been designed to provide a variety of leisure, recreational and cultural activities for the entire community. The center is highlighted by a full-size gymnasium with basketball, volleyball, and badminton courts.

Hawaiian Gardens has two public elementary schools-Venn W. Ferguson Elementary and Hawaiian Elementary and at least one middle school, Pharis F. Fedde Middle School, formerly called Killingsworth Junior High School. Students also attend Artesia High School, which is located in nearby Lakewood. There is also a private middle school, The Way Out Ministries Christian Academy,a Calvinist-sponsored school for students in Grades 7-12. This is a very small school and children receive individual attention in all classes.
