Hermosa Beach, CA Real Estate

The City of Hermosa Beach ("Hermosa" means "beautiful" in Spanish) was incorporated on January 10, 1901 and has the distinction of being the only one of the three beach cities that actually owns its particular stretch of beach. The beaches located in Redondo Beach and Los Angeles County owns Manhattan Beach. Hermosa Beach is located in Los Angeles County, in what is known as the South Bay region.

Hermosa Beach is best known for "The Strand". This is a paved path that stretches for 29 miles, passing through Hermosa Beach on its way to Santa Monica. You can walk, jog, bike, roller-skate, skateboard or otherwise traverse along this beautiful byway for as far as you wish without ever losing sight of the Pacific Ocean. Many people prefer to just find a seat and people-watch!

Hermosa Beach is also known as the "Beach Volleyball Capital of the World". Because of the popularity of this sport, permanent posts and nets have been erected at different points along the beach and there are games going on all the time. And, of course, surfing conditions are great in Hermosa Beach.

Houses close to the ocean in Hermosa Beach are very expensive and may cover a rather broad expanse of area. Further back, the homes become more moderately-priced and boast a simpler, almost tract-house look. However, residents have taken care to customize their individual residences, so that each reflects the owner's personality and taste.

Apartment units and complexes can be found in some of the same residential areas as single-family homes. In other sections of the City, older single-family homes and apartment buildings were torn down and the property razed to make way for condominium units.

Hermosa Beach sends its elementary school students to two different schools. Hermosa View Elementary serves those children in Grades K-2, while Hermosa Valley Elementary holds classes for those children in Grades 3-8. From there, students attend either Mira Costa or Redondo Beach High School. Our Lady of Guadalupe is a parochial school located in Hermosa Beach.
