The City of Hidden Hills is nestled between the western foothills of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County and the Ventura County line, California. Hidden Hills is also a gated development. Because the entire city is a gated development, it is strictly residential. There are no commercial properties. It is considered one of the wealthiest cities in the United States.

Home to 2,000 residents, the city prides itself on maintaining its country feel and city officials say they have no intention of ever allowing that to change. For this reason, houses in the city are subject to strict ordinances and codes. Architectural designs must meet specifications and any changes, additions, or variances must be approved. There are no sidewalks, streetlights, nor fences of any type anywhere in the city. There are no multi-family homes, such as apartments, town homes, or condominiums and the construction of such structures is not allowed. However, a good many of the houses in Hidden Hills do have guesthouses or guest quarters.

Homeowners have been known to rent these areas to tenants, which afford them the advantage of a rental income. In addition, this gives a person the opportunity to live in and enjoy the upscale environment that can only come from residing in a "residential city". This is not, however, a common thing among the residents of Hidden Hills, according to one source.

The elementary school that serves Hidden Hills--appropriately named Hidden Hills Elementary--is actually located inside the gated development. Middle school and high school students attend one of the middle schools and high schools that are located in nearby Calabasas. In addition, there are a number of private schools located in Calabasas for those who wish to have additional educational opportunity choices for their children.
