La Mirada, CA Real Estate

home buyersLa Mirada was founded by Andrew McNally, founder of Rand McNally Publishing Company, who came to California in the 1880s and purchased almost 2,300 acres of rangeland and named the area La Mirada, which in Spanish means "The View". Incorporated in 1960, the city has received the distinction of being ranked by CNN Money Magazine as the 34th best place to live, out of 100 cities. The city is located on the border between Orange and Los Angeles Counties.

The city of 50,000 residents is home to Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center. Featuring many “family-fun” attractions, the park includes: slides, spray areas, play structures, a zero depth beach entry, a flowing river channel, and numerous shade structures. It also features a 50-meter pool and a 25-yard pool suitable for all of the community’s competition and instruction needs, as well as a warm-water spa for therapeutic purposes.

La Mirada also is the location for the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. This theatre, which is operated by McCoy/Rigby Entertainment, produces six musicals each season.

La Mirada has long recognized the importance of family in the community. The Family Services Center is a one-stop center for information on recreational, educational and social service resources provided by the City of La Mirada or offered by partner agencies in the community. The Family Services Center is located in the lower level of the LaMirada Resource Center.

Single-family homes in this exciting city are for the most part moderately-priced. They are generally built along the lines of the modern/contemporary architectural style. La Mirada also offers a variety of multi-family residences. These include apartment units, town homes and condominium properties. Some apartment complexes cater exclusively to senior citizens, offering them independent living with others in their age group as their neighbors.

La Mirada has at least seventeen public elementary schools for the children who live in the city. Students attend the elementary school for which they are zoned, then go on to one of the six middle schools, then to one of the four high schools. There are also nine private schools located in La Mirada. Six of them are primary/middle schools; three are high schools. Of these nine, at least two of them are parochial schools.
