Lake Sherwood, CA Real Estate

Lake Sherwood is located in Ventura County. It is south of the city of Thousand Oaks, and west of Westlake Village in Los Angeles County. The area (then named Potrero Lake) was used to film the movie version of "Robin Hood" that starred Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. Because of the movie's impact, the area started being referred to as "Sherwood Forest" and "Maid Marian Park". Therefore, in 1921, the lake was officially re-named Lake Sherwood.

Lake Sherwood covers approximately 165 acres, which provides plenty of water area for all sorts of activities-swimming, boating, fishing, whatever you wish. There is also a beautiful country club located in the area. Lake Sherwood is almost entirely used for residential purposes. Commerical activity is available in nearby Thousand Oaks or Agoura Hills.

The community of Lake Sherwood is actually divided into two main parts. The large homes located close to and around Lake Sherwood are part of a gated community, while other homes located are located in developments. The majority of the homes have at least five bedrooms. Some of the really large homes have over 10,000 square feet; others are smaller, but no less opulent. There are no apartment complexes, townhomes or condominium properties in Lake Sherwood; however, some homes have been designated as rental properties.

Children in Lake Sherwood attend Westlake Elementary School, Colina Middle School and Westlake High School. In addition, there are a number of private schools in the nearby neighborhoods. The area is served by the Conejo Valley Unified School District.
