Mission Hills, CA Real Estate

Mission Hills is considered a suburban community of Los Angeles. Located near the northern junction of Interstate 5 and Interstate I-405, the Ronald Reagan Freeway (SR 118) runs through the middle of this beautiful community with a rich historical background. In addition, Sepulveda Boulevard's northern terminus is located in the Mission Hills community.

The Mission San Fernando Rey de Espana is located in Mission Hills. This historical structure was founded on September 8, 1797. It served in this capacity until 1845, when then-Governor Pio Pico declared that the mission could be sold, and indeed, began to use it as headquarters. The mission was used in a number of other ways during the late 1800s, and at one time, a hog farm was located on the grounds of the mission (in the quadrangle outside the mission buildings, to be exact), but became an active church again in 1926. A restoration process was undertaken, and today it serves as a "chapel of ease". Burials also continue to occur in the adjoining cemetery, which includes the Bob Hope Memorial Gardens, where the beloved comedian and entertainer is buried.

A "chapel-of-ease" is a church structure that is built in order to ease overcrowding in a growing parish or congregation, or to provide those who live at such a distance from the "main" parish or church that the construction of such a building (or possibly the use of existing facilities in the area) provides those parishioners or congregants with a closer, more accessible house of worship. The Andres Pico Adobe, which is the second oldest in Los Angeles that is still standing, is also located here.

Single-family homes in this easily accessible area are priced to sell. The architectural design is contemporary/modern. There are also several apartment complexes, town home developments and condominium properties available to those who prefer this type of housing. Many houses have also been converted or otherwise modified to support multi-family dwellings.

San Jose Street Elementary School and the North Valley Occupational Center provide public school education for the students of Mission Hills. Bishop Alemeny High School is a private school for students in Grades 9-12.
