Located in Ventura County, Moorpark was incorporated as a city in July 1983. One can live in this relatively young beach city and still get to Los Angeles easily. Moorpark is located close to the Pacific Ocean, and provides its residents and visitors with an easy and unique way of enjoying the ocean side attractions and fun at nearby Zuma Beach. The City operates a "beach bus" strictly for the purpose of transporting people to and from the beach.

Every two hours, the bus pulls up to a designated loading point. At that time, those waiting can load their beach supplies-boogie boards, coolers, umbrellas, chairs, or anything else they have brought with them-in the storage areas. They then climb aboard, find an empty seat, sit back, and enjoy the ride. Once the bus arrives at Zuma Beach, those who are just arriving simply unload their stuff and head off to the beach. Those who already there can then take the bus back to the original starting point.

The beach is not the only thing Moorpark has going for it, however. Many of the single-family homes in Moorpark are located in golf course communities, some of which are considered gated properties. There are also some gated estate communities, which boast some of Moorpark's loveliest homes. In addition, many homes are still located on working ranches. This means the ranches are not just for show; rather, the land is still used to raise livestock including cattle, sheep, and horses. Further, some homes have active avocado groves on the property. The homeowner can arrange to have the avocado crop picked (or can do it him or herself), and sell the fruit, thus generating a second income.

Six elementary schools, two middle schools and three high schools serve the school-age children in Moorpark. There is also a private elementary school for children in Grades K-5, and a private Christian school which holds classes for students in Grades K-12.
