North Hills is one of the oldest communities in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. This area, classified as a district, was originally called "Sepulvida". The name was changed in 1992.

The I-405 runs through the area that encompasses North Hills. This makes it easy for those who live in North Hills to reach Los Angeles and the surrounding communities, cities and neighborhoods very easily. This allows residents to take advantage of everything Los Angeles has to offer as well as the local attractions that can be found in any of the places between North Hills and Los Angeles.

North Hills is the home of the Mission San Fernando Rey De Espana. The mission was founded September 8, 1797. It became inactive for a while, and was even used for other purposes. At one time, there was even a hog farm located on the quadrangle, the area between the mission buildings. The mission became a "working church" again in 1922. It is still used today as a chapel-of-ease.

Those who live or wish to live in North Hills can enjoy the beauty of the still-active mission chapel-of-ease as well as the easy access to Los Angeles, because single-family homes in the area are very moderately priced. Constructed in the modern-contemporary style, many of the homes have two stories. There are also a number of "multi-family" homes (apartment complexes, town homes, and/or condominium properties). These are also reasonably priced, and have very attractive features.

Children in the North Hills region attend one of the eight elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools for which they are zoned. There are eight elementary schools, one is a magnet school and one is a charter school. There are also a number of private schools in the area. Some serve certain grades (such as K-7 or K-6-of these, one is a parochial school); others serve middle school and/or high school students.
