Norwalk, a city of just over 108,000 residents, is in excellent proximity to four different freeways. The 91 Freeway (known as the Riverside Freeway) runs along the city's southern border. The San Gabriel Freeway (I-605) is located at the western border of the city. Interstate 5 (otherwise referred to as the Santa Ana Freeway) goes right through the community. Interstate 105 (the Century Freeway) goes all the way from Norwalk to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority provides two commuter rail lines to Norwalk. They are the Metro Green Line, which provides connections to downtown Los Angeles, as well as Long Beach and LAX, and the Metrolink system. This system connects to Orange County, San Bernardino County, Ventura County, Riverside County, and San Diego County. Union Station in Los Angeles is also accessible from the Metrolink system that serves Norwalk. All these connections make regional transportation to, from, in, and around Norwalk unparralled to that of anywhere else in Los Angeles County.

For all its accessibility to Los Angeles, Norwalk is located in an area that supports apple orchards, has facilities and acreage for a wildlife sanctuary and is one of the best ways to get to the National Park that is located nearby, for some spectacular "leaf-peeking" (otherwise known as "fall foliage viewing"). In fact, one can actually combine "looking at the leaves" in the fall with another fun activity. Fall is also when apples ripen, and many of the apple orchards in Norwalk allow visitors to pick their own fruit.

Stop before you go, and pick some apples to munch on while you drive around admiring the beautiful colors (imagine how good your car will smell), or plan to stop on your way back and pick some to take home. Either way, you will still have apples that didn't come from the grocery store, and you can't get any fresher than that.

Homes in the Norwalk area are very moderately priced. In addition, there are several apartment complexes. They are for the most part very small, only four to six units per property, which provides one with an uncrowded feeling not normally experienced in apartment living. There are also some nice condo and town home properties available.

Educational services are available from the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. Children attend one of the three elementary schools in Norwalk, then go on to the middle and high school located in the area. Advanced education opportunities are available, as Norwalk is home to Cerritos College.
