Oak Park, CA Real Estate

Oak Park is an unincorporated community located in the eastern part of Ventura County. The area is bordered on the west by the City of Thousand Oaks North Ranch communities, and on the south by Agoura Hills and Westlake Village in Los Angeles County. The east and north borders are surrounded by open space land.

Oak Park was created as a master planned community. As such, it has areas of heavy development, and other areas that may be less-populated. The lighter development is especially true in those places where Oak Park is striving to maintain the natural environment as much as possible so as to protect the native wildlife and plants that are still there.

For this reason, Oak Park has worked to place its ball fields (for football, baseball, soccer, and other similar sports) and courts (for basketball, tennis, and other "hard-surface" sports) throughout the six neighborhood parks, rather than having them concentrated in just one or two locations. This keeps any area from becoming "stressed" due to overuse.

Oak Park's commitment to the environment and natural beauty of the area is evident in the fact that one can visit Oak Park Open Space and actually see animals there. Deer, coyotes, skunks, rabbits, snakes, and birds of all types live there, as well as other forms of wildlife. Chesebro Canyon, a natural area that is located less than a mile from Oak Park, has been known to be used as a nesting site by golden eagles. There have also been indications that mountain lions inhabit the area as well.

A non-profit umbrella organization, the Community Foundation for Oak Park, helps raise funds for the support of community activities; while overseeing a number of other organizations consisting of members (plus other volunteers) who serve the community in many different ways.

Single-family homes are located in certain areas of Oak Park. They range from moderately-priced homes in the modern/contemporary style, to more expensive, estate-type homes. Town homes and apartment complexes are also located in Oak Park. The town homes themselves are owned by individuals, and residents share common ownership of streets and greenways within the complexes.

The Oak Park Unified School District provides oversees the three elementary schools, the middle school, the high school, and the alternative high school. In addition, the district offers preschool aged children the Oak Park Neighborhood School, a hands-on school following the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education.
