Palmdale is located in the southern region of the Antelope Valley, approximately 60 miles northeast of Downtown Los Angeles off State Highway 14.

There is much to do in Palmdale! Palmdale is the location of the "Drytown" Water park. That is definitely an unusual name for an attraction, since it is anything but! This is evident in the large number of slides, pools, and splash and floating areas that are abundant in this fun-filled "town".

Residents and visitors can also check out the NASA Aerospace Exploration Gallery. The gallery features unique glimpses of NASA's exciting past, present and future. Displays include the refurbished forward fuselage including the cockpit of an AV-8 Harrier jet aircraft, a representation of flight research activities in the Antelope Valley circa 1949 and visiting displays that depict aspects of aerospace exploration.

Aircraft enthusiasts can view a collection of aircraft at US Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale. The Joe Davies Heritage Airpark currently includes 14 retired military aircraft on static display plus a 1/8 scale model of the B-2 Spirit, an AGM-28 Hound Dog Missile and various components from other aircraft.

Palmdale is proud of its very active community theatre, the Palmdale Playhouse. This venue puts on several productions throughout the season, which showcase the local talent. The atmosphere is very friendly, and everyone is encouraged to participate. Shoppers can explore the antique stores, craft shops, cozy boutiques, flea markets and road-side fruit stands found in and around Palmdale. Antelope Valley Mall is an indoor mall, featuring 135 specialty stores, and covering over one million square feet.

The majority of the houses are very moderately priced. While modern/contemporary is the prevailing style, a little bit of the "old South" managed to sneak into what was once the "old West". This is evident in the "antebellum-type" construction (complete with columns) that has been used in one of the estate homes that are located in Palmdale. Palmdale also has a number of very pretty condominium properties. In addition, there are some apartment complexes, and a number of structures that resemble single-family homes from the outside, but actually have one (or possibly more) self-contained living areas within the structure.

Children of elementary-school age attend one of at least thirteen primary schools in Palmdale. Some of the schools (at least five of them) serve Grades K-5; others (at least seven of them) hold classes for students in Grades K-6. There are also three middle/intermediate schools. The middle schools generally house sixth through eighth grade students, while intermediate schools may house only grade, or at the most two grades. There are also two high schools. There are also five Christian private schools, two private schools that do not list a church, religious, or specific affiliation, and a K-8 parochial school in Palmdale.
