Rancho Palos Verdes, located in Los Angeles County, and incorporated September 7, 1973, is sometimes referred to simply as "RPV". This city is known for its amazing views of the Pacific Ocean.

Rancho Palos Verdes is where the Wayfarers Chapel is located. "The Glass Church" was built between 1949 and 1951. Lloyd Wright conceived its architectural design. Located on cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the church is affiliated with the Swedenborgian Church of North America. It serves as a memorial to the founder of the church, Emanuel Swedenborg. The church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Pointe Vincent Lighthouse is located here, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. This structure was built in 1926. Rancho Palos Verdes was also known as the site of Marineland. Marineland was once considered the world's largest oceanarium, and was in business from 1954 through 1987. Currently, there is development occurring at the site of what will eventually be a large resort.

Single-family homes in Rancho Palos Verdes range from moderately priced to expensive. You pay for a good view, but this does not mean that some parts of the city are not considered as pretty as others. The more expensive homes are built on large lots. Some lots have enough square footage to where one can have a yard or install a swimming pool.

The numerous condominium properties in Rancho Palos Verdes range from those located in resort-like settings to those that are on some of the most beautifully landscaped grounds you will ever see. There is also an apartment building located in the city itself.

Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District (PVPUSD) is over the eleven elementary schools, three middle schools, and three high schools. These schools have constantly ranked among the best in California and the nation. You are probably not going to be disappointed with the education your child receives at any of these institutions. In addition, Chadwick Private School, Christ Lutheran School and Rolling Hills County Day School (which only goes from Grade 1 to Grade 8) are also located in Rancho Palos Verdes.
